RICE FOR REFUGEES

EMERGENCY AID

Because of the ongoing violence in Burma, vast numbers of minority groups are forced to flee their homes. Facing violent persecution in the world's longest ongoing civil war, they are unable to return to their destroyed villages and they become Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) within Burma or refugees if they are able to escape across the border to Thailand. Coping with immense trauma, often indefinitely separated from their communities, with little to no economic opportunity, and without even the ability to farm because of vast quantities of landmines embedded in the landscape, IDPs and refugees face devastating food shortages and extreme poverty. Since September 2017, Daughters Rising has aimed to alleviate food shortages by donating bags of rice to affected minority groups. To date we have provided over 55,000 meals to Karen IDPs and refugees.
