For decades, Indigenous communities in Myanmar have endured violence, displacement, and the loss of their homes, farmland, and livelihoods. Since the military coup in 2021, millions more people have been forced to flee, arriving in Thailand with little more than the hope of finding safety. Many refugee families have no legal status, no stable income, and no access to public healthcare or social services. Unable to return home and struggling to meet even their most basic needs, they are left especially vulnerable to exploitation and human trafficking.
At Daughters Rising, we believe emergency aid is about more than meeting immediate needs—it’s about protecting people during their most vulnerable moments. By providing food, emergency medical assistance, and essential supplies to displaced families on both sides of the Thai-Myanmar border, we help reduce the desperation that traffickers so often exploit while giving families the stability they need to begin rebuilding their lives.
A bag of rice can be a lifeline. Daughters Rising provides critically needed food, medicine, clothing and hygiene aid to IDP communities along the Thai-Myanmar border, helping ensure that those fleeing conflict can meet their most basic needs with dignity and hope.
Our response is guided by the needs identified by the communities themselves. In 2025, we partnered with a Karen IDP camp to build a dedicated women’s bathroom facility, providing women and girls with safe, private access to sanitation and improving hygiene, dignity, and personal safety in the camp.
Since 2017, Daughters Rising has delivered medical supplies, clothing, and more than 28,000 meals to internally displaced people and refugee families. For many, a bag of rice is more than food—it is time: time to recover, time to find safe work, time to keep children in school, and time to plan for a future beyond survival.
No student should have to learn on an empty stomach. Proper nutrition is essential for learning, health, and academic success—yet many refugee students struggle to access regular, nutritious meals.
Through our Share-a-Meal Program, guests at the Chai Lai Orchid Café can donate a meal to a student at Minmahaw School, an English-intensive GED program serving refugee youth on the Thai/Myanmar border. Daughters Rising matches every donated meal, doubling the impact of every gift.
Together, we’ve provided more than 6,000 meals, helping students stay healthy, focused, and on the path to higher education.
Healthcare should never depend on where you’re born or whether you’ve been forced to flee your home. For many refugees and internally displaced people from Myanmar, conflict, poverty, discrimination, and the absence of nearby clinics make even basic medical care impossible to access.
Launched in 2025, Medic-Line is a free telehealth service connecting refugees and displaced families with Burmese-speaking medical professionals in the UK. By providing trusted medical advice remotely, Medic-Line helps patients access timely care, make informed health decisions, and overcome barriers that too often leave treatable illnesses untreated.
