The Chai Lai Orchid: Travel and do good.

In 2013 we opened an eco lodge that supports human rights. The Chai Lai Orchid is a home and job training program for at risk women and girls.

Practicing responsible tourism through social business

The Chai Lai Orchid is an eco lodge at an elephant camp and is also a safe home for women and their children. It serves as a vocational training program where staff are paid to learn hospitality and also taught to be mentors and leaders in their own communities. Experience and economic independence boasts their self-confidence, igniting their ambition  to pursue their dreams, placing their futures back into their own hands. Proceeds from the eco lodge fund Daughters Rising programming.

A home in the heart of the jungle

The Chai Lai is located in Mae Wang the lush mountains of Northern Thailand.  Guests often tell us it’s like being welcomed into a hill tribe family and we cherish this compliment the most. Our Karen and Kayah staff love to learn about new cultures and are happy to teach you some new words or show their traditional crafts.  We have a lending library of literature about human and minority rights in local languages, as well as books about the situation in Burma for guests. We also hosts volunteers who want to give back to local communities by volunteering their skills.

We also have a small gift shop where local artisan’s can sell their hand-crafted wares to guests, and offer Karen traditional weaving classes and village homestays to give guests the opportunity to learn more about other cultures.
